- Best for: Pure electric vehicles and owners who want "set and forget" convenience.

2 Pro Tips to Save on EV Charger Costs
Installation costs are largely driven by the specific hardware you buy and the layout of your home. Here is how to keep the price down:
Look for an Integrated Type B RCD
When buying your charger unit, check the specs for a built-in "Type B RCD" or "6mA DC detection." * The Cost Saver: If your charger doesn't have this built-in, New Zealand safety regulations require us to install a separate Type B RCD in your switchboard. These components are expensive—often costing an additional $400 + GST just for that single part. Buying a "smarter" charger with this included often pays for itself instantly.
Location, Location, Location
The closer the charger is to your switchboard, the cheaper the install. Why? The heavy-duty copper cable required for 32-amp fast chargers is expensive. A short run through a garage wall is significantly cheaper than a 20-metre run around the exterior of a house or through a garden trench. If you have the choice, mount your charger as close to the main electrical board as possible.
Is Your Switchboard Ready?
